100 Day Retreat in Daily Life: Widening our Circle
Please join us on Saturday December 15th, for a half-daylong sitting to celebrate the end of the 100-day retreat! See more information. Please join us for Mission Dharma’s third 100-Day Retreat in Daily Life. The retreat begins on Wednesday, September 5 and ends on December 13, 2012. Even if you are beginning late, please feel free to join us at any time! If you were not present for Howie’s talk about the retreat, you can listen to it on the Mission Dharma Facebook Page or in our Dharma Talks Page (9/4/12 talk). |
Retreat Theme
The theme of our current 100-Day Retreat is “Back to School Retreat: A Time to Let Go and To Begin Anew”. As you begin anew, plant the seeds of love, generosity and joy and do everything with a mind and heart that lets go. The invitation: Start each day letting go of what happened before. Throughout the day, stay connected to the present moment. Let loving kindness and insight be your guides. End each day with a conscious intention to discharge and let go of the stresses of your day.
Some practices to guide you during this retreat include practicing generosity, mindfulness, intentional relaxation of the mind and body and all the Brahmaviharas: Lovingkindness (Metta), Compassion (Karuna), Sympathetic Joy (Mudita) and Equanimity (Upekkha). A daily reflection on the law of Impermanence is also recommended.
Participating in the Retreat
Those who choose to participate in the retreat will commit to four practice periods each day. The practice periods can be a simple three-minute check-in with your body or an hour-long meditation period. No matter what you choose to do, the practice periods will help widen our circle of mindfulness and love.
Supporting Each Other
To support one another in our intentions to 'let go and begin anew', we will have a few resources available:
1) Facebook- We have a Mission Dharma Facebook Page. We will post weekly talks and in the comments section, please feel free to share your experiences with the Sangha and let us know how your practice is going. (Note: Talks will also be posted on our website. You don't need to engage on Facebook to hear talks or participate in this retreat)
2) Sangha-wide sitting – At noon each day, everyone who is participating in the retreat is invited to do one of their practice periods knowing that you are being supported by the energy of the Sangha.
3) Buddies – Consider finding a retreat buddy to share your practice with. Howie will speak more about this on September 4th..
May we all grow in mindfulness, love, and compassion during our retreat!
